Well folks I never thought I'd get to say it but today I was surprised. Repair work was fully completed last Wednesday the 18th! The repair guys came out around 10am and I only thought they were taking measurements and so forth but I guess today was my lucky day! They have been here all day working on my slide out. I have to admit it's been a nerve wrecking kind of day but this is the first time I can proudly say these guys did an amazing job! Finally professional, honest and hard working gentleman! I will be doing a separate review of their work which I was given permission by them to do, so that will be coming up soon.
I have so many pictures to show you in the slideshow you'll see below. In January when the problems started I didn't know what to expect. The whole debacle with my insurance company in itself is a different battle which I am dealing with them but now that my slide is fixed I don't really care.
It was truly amazing at what it takes to repair a portion of the slide out floor. From the outside work to the inside work it took nearly 8 hours for the whole project to be completed. I didn't watch much of the outside work but I know it consisted of removing the trim where you see screws. The inside process was much more difficult. It consisted of them having to shut off the hydraulics on my slide outs so all three wouldn't come in. They made it to where only the couch slide came in. Once they got the couch slide to come in about 8 inches roughly, they used blocks of wood to jack it up so basically my slide out was sitting at an upward angle.
They removed the left side of the wood trim detailing in the upper left hand corner along with the decorative wall covering that hides the initial wood frame. I got to watch as the carpet was pulled back along with the foam and what looked like gray bubble wrap almost.....then I saw the damage for the first time and folks it was disheartening and scary.
The water had actually made it's way to the front of the slide out trim and I was concerned that my entire slide would need to be replaced but luckily they advised me that the slide itself was salvageable because it would dry out on its own since the water had just started creeping that way...whoooo what a relief. So a good lets say 1/4th of the slide out floor had water damage and was basically rotten. If it would have went any longer we may have fell through that part of the floor as it was very weak.
They were able to saw the damaged wood out and start working on putting in the new. For several hours I basically had a real open floorplan..haha..but it had to be done. They brought everything they needed to repair it and was cutting the new wood, sanding it down and preparing it to be installed. Once they got the new piece in place it fit like a charm. A metal plate was used to help provide stability in the slide out which they screwed in from the bottom and well basically made my slide out brand new.
What a long process it was but all in all I was so pleased with everything. Anytime I questioned anything they explained what they were using it for and why it was needed. I always find it's important to understand things because you never know what may happen down the long road. Honest technicians have no problem in explaining and that's important to me.
I wish I could do a better job of explaining everything but sometimes pictures speak a thousand words so to speak. Hopefully this story will help you understand how the repairs work or who knows you might just be smart enough to figure it out on your own and if so, congrats! If there is one thing I can say to all of you, please, please, please do not let water issues go unresolved. You never know just how bad it can get or expensive!
