Well I've lived in two different RV parks now. Back in North Carolina, we lived in a small town outside of Roxboro, NC. I'm a huge fan of small towns as most of the time everyone knows everyone and in those areas you find people who you can have that small talk with and see their bright smiling faces on a pretty regular basis.
Living in Roxboro, you were about 30 minutes away from the border of Virginia. It was always nice driving across the border and definitely saving money on gas as it was usually $0.20 to sometimes $0.30 cents cheaper than North Carolina. Oh yeah, North Carolina has a high gas tax and unfortunately for folks out that way the gas tax is increasing once again starting in January of 2015.
Most folks at the Roxboro, NC campground were all interconnected and working at the same plant or jobsite so it was basically like having a family. There was only about 15 RV sites so it wasn't a huge campground at all. On the weekends, everyone came together at one campsite and we had a big fire going. Most everyone brought some kind of meal and we just sat around and talked. You have no idea of how much I miss those days. I do still keep in touch with my friends from back that way but it's not the same. I always have the joke, if only campers could fly it'd make life easier... haha.
Anyways, out here in Texas the campgrounds are pretty much a plenty. Living in a state where the economy is constantly growing there is a much higher demand for RV parks on a bigger and larger scale. Most RV parks even the one I reside in has over 150 lots with 95% of them full!
The campground we stay at is nothing like the more "expensive" campgrounds with all the amenities and so forth. Don't get me wrong we have laundry facilities on site and mailboxes which is about all I need although a pool would be nice since now I know just how brutal Texas summers are (haha).
Well in North Carolina I had neighbors I guess you could say that were more of my age range so to speak. Well out here it's a different story. I have this neighbor and while I know he means well at times he drives me absolutely CRAZY!
What I'm about to tell you is honestly no joke.........
One morning right at 7am I kept hearing this loud noise and it sounded like a car that had a dead battery which is understandable from time to time then it sounded like a gun shot was going off. Well come to find out my neighbor was sitting in his boat cranking it up and revving up the engine for nearly a hour. Now mind you, there are lakes, the gulf of Mexico and rivers that he could easily go to. Since April, that boat hasn't moved but he loves cranking that engine up and of course it's right by my bedroom windows.
Then about two weeks ago, my husband ran outside because we kept hearing a loud thump hit our dining room windows and turns out our "wonderful" neighbor was weed eating which is very thoughtful of him but his grandkids when visiting had thrown all kinds of rocks into the grass and guess what... those rocks were being slung at our windows- thank goodness it didn't crack or break our window!
I'm grateful for people and neighbors that try to help out but sometimes you have to wonder if some folks are "overcrossing" the boundary. I don't want to sound like a cruel person but man enough is enough at times. I do feel bad for him and I always thank him for everything he's offered to do but at the same time this is my home and I can't really afford to have damage.
In the other lot in front of me, I like to call it the "one night lot" as most folks are only in it for one night. On rare occasions it might stay occupied for a few weeks but that's about it. The latest neighbors we had on that side really caught me off guard when we were putting up our Christmas lights back in Mid December. They made the comment that they would be sure to close their blinds as they didn't care to see the lights. I couldn't help but think to myself, why aren't you closing your blinds anyways? So of course, the Grinch made it's way to my neck of the woods but it didn't stop us. (haha)
It's always funny at the different people you meet and the things you learn. I guess I now understand why no one ever wanted this lot we are in and apparently I've learned the hard way. Other folks who stay in other lots have told us the stories about why no one ever stayed in this lot but hey it's all good because it made for a great story to share with you folks. It's all a part of life after all. Anyways, I'm sure other folks have been in the same situation before possibly even worse than what I've dealt with. Just take it one day at a time and regardless we are human and not perfect.
Till Next Time....
