This story relates to the 1999 Coachmen Royal....
It's a unique title right? Well sadly the title speaks of what a horrific nightmare my husband and I experienced one fateful evening. Most people never anticipate seeing their fecal matter laying on the floor much less spewing like a volcano from their commode. Well guess what...... we did! Sometimes you really wonder how much it takes to push you to a boiling point, well seeing our "shit" everywhere pushed our last boiling points without a shadow of a doubt. I don't know whether it was shock, rage or just a matter of wanting to sit down and cry that had me at wit's end with our camper. It seemed like every time we turned around it was something else.
So, let's back up just a little bit and explain our theory......
My husband and I honestly believe that the black tank was never even cleaned much less properly taken care of. When we bought the camper in July of 2013 and it was getting its final cleaning we asked that the blank tank be cleaned as we could tell it was in bad shape. The dealership said they would do that and that it was part of their cleaning procedure for a used camper. So we thought okay that should make a huge difference. Well by the time the camper got to our RV park, they didn't clean the tanks and of course they lied but what was I going to do? My husband had already sold his 21 footer so it's not like we really had any other option. We lived nearly 3 hours away from the dealership and well sometimes you just can't win.... yup lesson learned on that part of it.
You figure a 1999 model and if the previous owners really didn't maintain it like it needed to be well that would certainly explain the layers upon layers of poop build up against the walls of the black tank. By January 2014 we had been fighting with the black tank for several weeks. We could dump it and never get it lowered past 2/3. It was so aggravating and frustrating not only with the "Test" but to go and flush and see your poop sitting right below the opening almost as if it was stalking you. We had the right chemicals that we used on a regular basis along with the flush king. We did at least a weekly dump sometimes twice a week and it seemed like nothing ever worked.
Well the night of January 28th, 2014 proved to be the ultimate Oh My Gosh Moment. I guess we were one of the lucky couples that has ever dealt with this as one guy told us that he only knew a handful of people it had happened to. From what we know and was told, apparently there was some huge clog in the black tank line. For whatever reason, one fateful flush with a bit of extra water was a wrong turn because the moment I got off the pot you'd think a volcano erupted. Oh My Gosh, all the black tank water was running up the line out of the commode, all over the floor, down the steps to the living room, all into the walls of the bathroom and living room. Then came the toilet paper, pee and poop. It was so bad I'm sure I used every single can of air freshener I had and that still didn't even mask it. My husband runs outside and shuts off the water and by about 15 minutes later I guess you could say the black tank was empty cause it was all over the interior of the camper.
I'm not kidding when I say this- poop was on the ceiling, on the light bulbs inside of the plastic covering, it was in the walls, cabinets, seams of the tub and was seeping even further back into the tub walls. It's truly amazing at what colors of brown I got to see. All in all it covered the entire bathroom and part of the living room.
After using every single towel, wash cloth, dish towel, paper towel and garbage bag I had, it still wasn't all cleaned up. I put down so much plastic you'd think I was living in a bubble. Our clothes stunk so heavily that we ended up throwing them away too and used the outside shower to wash off as much as we could in 40 degree weather.
Now I won't go into the details of insurance and so forth because we got beyond screwed on that matter and that's another story for another day. As I sit here writing this story that's taken me months to do, that smell still haunts me and makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth. Oh My Gosh what a nightmare. I guess you could say in a nutshell I'm being kind of nice since I'm not going to post the pictures that I had to take as well.
So if you ever wonder what it takes to make you boil over, well I guess you could say my nightmare definitely made me boil over especially when my insurance agent asked me if I took the time to record it as it was happening.
Well folks, I hope I haven't made you lose your appetite and I'm pretty sure I know what kind of facial expression you just might be making after reading this so moral of the story, always know that anything and I do mean anything is really possible.
Till next time---
