So this past Saturday we made a rare trip to Camping World. Most of you know that I do most of my RV shopping through Amazon as it's cheaper, convenient and saves me the trouble of dealing with sales and just outright rude associates but we really needed some stuff so off we went!
Now let me back up a little bit and explain what happened. Friday afternoon I was walking upstairs to the bedroom and happened to look over at my entry door and see a huge wasp building a nest in my screen door and thought how did he get in there. So here I am with a can of Febreeze spraying it at him as I've heard their wings will stick together and it basically cripples them (I know it sounds insane but it does work). So after a few minutes of having an extra smelly strawberry fig scented screen door he fell down and I thought victory! Oh how that was so short lived. That wasp was stubborn and flew up under this small curtain I had over the entry door window so now I've got a can of Febreeze and a fly swatter and on a mission to find him.
I open the door carefully and step outside swatting at my small curtain and sure enough now I can't find him. I take down my curtain and low and behold the entry door glass has slipped down into the frame by about 1/2in to maybe an inch. It then occurred to me that's how he got into my screen. So I'm standing on the top step seeing if I can push the glass up or something- well that didn't work so I was ticked to say the least. I honestly thought the glass had broke and I wasn't ready for that bombshell.
So being the quick thinker that I am, I ran inside and grabbed a black sharpie, scissors, my command tape, a measuring tape and foil. I cut strips of command tape and applied it to the frame. Then I measured out how long I needed the foil. I tagged it using the black sharpie so I didn't waste material. I cut the foil out and then once I pulled the backing off of the tape I applied the foil to the frame. It covered the entire frame and I made sure not to leave any gaps where bugs could fly in. Yes it wasn't the greatest fix but it did take care of anything making it into my screen door easily..
Later that afternoon when my husband got home he took a look at it but didn't have much daylight left so we decided to wait until Saturday morning. Well Saturday morning was actually pretty interesting. We were able to unscrew the 12 screws that hold the window frame in place and carefully remove the frame then the glass. (As a side note, please make sure at least 2 people do this task. It is really much safer to have someone on the front and someone on the back) It turns out that the tabs that support the glass had broken off most likely when my family was out here slamming my door (haha) but then again whose to say that it wasn't caused by some of the amazing and powerful thunderstorms we've had shaking and rocking us?
Anyways, the glass wasn't broken luckily. So at our visit to Camping World we picked up the frame for the exterior part of the window frame. We also picked up several other items which I've added some of them to my Amazon Store which you can visit at http://astore.amazon.com/thcaswi-20 to see the window frame we got. Well like the little sleep we've had for the past nearly two months it didn't occur to us to read the back of the stapled guide. So we get home and my husband starts taking apart the window glass frame again and sure enough both the old interior and new exterior don't fit together.
Oh how it didn't occur to me at the time that you might have to buy both brand new interior and exterior so needless to say we have now taken the entry window door frame apart now twice and have resolved nothing. You can definitely believe we've got the installation and assembly pretty well down pat now. So Saturday night I hopped on Amazon and ordered the matching counterpart which was the Valterra Carded Interior Entrance Door Window Frame found at http://astore.amazon.com/thcaswi-20/detail/B00FQEBO0U. It arrived earlier today and this weekend we will replace both frames.
Well you might be wondering if we still have that gap in the door window right now? Well actually we don't. We did a quick fix that's holding up temporarily. We simply turned the interior door frame upside down so the tabs would hold the glass up and in place.
I've always heard the saying practice makes perfect but in this case I would have totally been okay with doing it just one time but after this weekend hey the third time is a charm (haha).
I've attached a couple of photo's to show you just exactly what I've talked about. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or leave a comment!
