So before making the same mistake again I've learned to take a small notebook with questions I've wrote down in it that I want to share with you in hopes you'll never experience what we did.
1. Have the tanks been professionally cleaned? If so, can a date be provided as to when?
2. Have the propane tanks been certified? If so, please show me the date.
3. Has this camper had any problems that the previous owners may have disclosed to you?
4. Ask to be shown how to dump all the tanks! (It can vary significantly depending on the camper)
5. Where is the LP Gas Detector? (If Available-not in all campers especially older models.)
6. Have the propane lines been pressure tested? (This is to check for propane leaks!!)
7. Where is the main command center located? (Most of the time it's easy to locate but never hurts to double check)
8. How do you operate the slide(s)? (In my Montana when they go out, it starts in the bedroom and then the living room slides move out, however, when I pull the slides in, it starts with the living room and finishes with the bedroom. It's just better to know.)
9. Where is the power cord stored, plugged in at and what amp is it?
10. Is there a holding tank flush system like the tornado built in?
11.Have the awning lowered and check for any rips and tears.
12. Ask them to power the camper so you can check the appliances.
13. Are there any roof problems? When was it cleaned? Was any roof sealant applied recently?
Key things to look for in a camper!!!!.
1. Look for water damage. Mainly around windows, doors, slide outs or the walls surrounding them.
2. Check for moisture problems. Mainly looking for wrinkles on the wall and very "soft" places in the carpet and along the walls.
3. Open cabinet doors big and small. Look at the wiring and make sure it looks to be in tact.
4. Suspicious and odd furnishings. Sometimes you'll find a picture frame stuck to the wall or some other just off the wall item that sort of looks tacky or out of place--make sure they isn't a huge hole behind it or refer to questions 1, 2, or 3.
