For some reason I never thought to do a little history on the first camper we owned, so let's travel back through time....
It wasn't the nicest camper on the lot nor the newest one but for the price and how maintained it looked, we were happy with it. It was a 1999 Coachmen Royal 285RK with one slide in it. It was a beautiful and down to earth color scheme on the interior. It was a sky blue carpet with matching recliner and sofa. The wood trim was done in a light oak color. It made the camper feel "at home" if that makes sense.
Oh it was a 31 footer and had a queen size bed upstairs with dual bed side tables on each side. Above the bed you had cabinet space as well that stretched from wall to wall with three cabinet doors attached. There was a small t.v. tray in the right hand corner that flipped up. You could lift up the bed for additional storage. It didn't have a bedroom door but it did have the fabric curtain you could pull for minimal privacy.
Then you take a step down and you are in the bathroom area. I will say it had a very decent sized bathtub/shower combination. It had the glass door and a small area to sit down in which was ideal for me. To the left of the tub/shower you had a decent size sink with dual mirror cabinets above it. The medicine cabinet was actually extremely spacious which is rare to find in newer campers. Then of course the Thetford toilet with the handy foot flush.
Next to the sink area there was a cabinet that was basically a small closet with two drawers underneath it. There was two of these basically one on each side kind of like the dual bed side tables. I call it a his and her closet.. (haha).
If you are done in the bathroom you can take another step down and graciously enter the living room area. The slide out contained the living room couch as well as the kitchen table. The couch was a pull out bed but it wasn't even comfortable to sit on. There was just a simple recliner close to the entry door that you could swivel around in. A small corner built in entertainment center met you as you came in the door. It had a cabinet built underneath it with a few shelves built in.
The kitchen was actually beautiful. It starts with a Dometic refrigerator next to your oven and cooktop range. Then you have a little counter space with cabinets greeting you above and below. In the corner you have a dual sink which leads to you to more counter space. The microwave is wrapped in between what would look like an entertainment center. You have a mini pantry on top, the microwave in between and then another mini pantry below. The trim around the top of the kitchen cabinets allowed for even more storage which I loved!
Yes, it wasn't the greatest camper and at the time we didn't know we had a lemon on our hands but that's a different story....but it was our home regardless.
There were many things we loved about this camper.
#1- The shower and bath tub were quite large and still a nice way to kind of be able to take a bath or in my case shave your legs easily.
#2- The outside storage was a plenty! There was compartments built into the slide, all kinds of storage available on both sides of the Coachmen.
#3- We really loved how light and airy the camper felt. When living in a RV the last thing you want to be in is something that is just dark and kind of depressing.
#4- It was in our price range to be honest about it.
#5- We were going to be able to pull it with our truck without any problems.
There are always factors we consider when buying a camper. We look at this lifestyle most likely in the same respect that non full timer's do when buying a condo, townhome or house. You always have pro's and con's. The lemon story part of it will be coming soon and trust me if you've read the flush king story well that will give you an idea of one of the issues.
Anyways, the rain is just a tap dancing on the roof so I do believe I'll say, till next time...
